Following are 3 imp points for onpage activity -
1- look at your competitors’ websites to see what keywords they are targeting
2 -Review their meta keywords, titles, and content on their websites to identify additional keywords to add to your list.
3- look for keywords is forums, blogs, industry sites, and Q&A sites like Yahoo Answers

If you're talking about ON PAGE optimization then you could do very minimal to that. Minimal but critical. You have to organize all your tags because those are what the spiders will be crawling into.
