HA NOI – Former Dong Thap player Samsung Kayode has signed a contract with Spanish Atletico Madrid, one of the most successful clubs in La Liga.
Kayode, who did not renew his contract with the Vietnamese team, moves to Atletico under a free transfer.
Atletico officials said they were impressed with Kayode's CV and video clips of his time in Viet Nam.
Currently, Atletico Madrid have no more quota for non-European players, so the Nigerian will be sent to play for Portugal's Sporting Lisbon under a borrowing contract.
Sporting Lisbon last season entered the final of the Europa League; they lost 0-1 to Porto.
The 23-year-old is expected to build up experience there before returning to Atletico where he can pair with world well-known strikers such as Diego Forlan and Jose Antonio Reyes.
Earlier Kayode, who scored 17 goals this season, received many offers from Vietnamese teams including V-League champion Ha Noi T&T, Navibank Sai Gon and Hoang Anh Gia Lai. – VNS
